Bladder Cancer Signs and Symptoms

First sign is blood in the urine called hematuria. Hematuria is either visible or microscopic. Gross hematuria describes urine that appears red or brown and can be seen with the naked eye. Microscopic hematuria means the red blood cells are visible if a urine sample is examined under a microscope.
  • A frequent urge to urinate.
  • Pain & burning on urination.
  • A sense of incomplete emptying of the bladder after urination.
  • Having to urinate more frequently or at shorter intervals.
  • Low back pain.
  • Urinary tract infection.
  • Abdominal pain.
  • Loss of appetite and weight.
These symptoms are not sure signs of bladder cancer. Infections, tumors, bladder stones or other problems also can cause these symptoms. There may be frequent urination, stinging and pain across the pubic bone or exactly the same symptoms as in an ordinary bladder infection. Many other diseases, including inflammatory conditions, involving the bladder and kidney may cause similar symptoms. However, since early detection is important in curing bladder cancer, if you have these symptoms, you should bring them to the attention of your doctor.

Signs and Symptoms
Some common signs and symptoms of bladder cancer include
  • Blood in the urine (slightly rusty to deep red in color).
  • Pain during urination.
  • Frequent urination, or feeling the urge to urinate without results.
These symptoms may not be always sure signs of bladder cancer. They may also be caused by infections, benign tumors, bladder stones, or other problems. Only a doctor can make a diagnosis. People with symptoms like these generally see their family doctor or a urologist (a doctor who specializes in diseases of the urinary system). It is important to see a doctor, so that any illness can be diagnosed and treated as early as possible.
