Cardiac–care chain Narayana Hrudayalaya launched the world’s largest cancer hospital, a 1400–bed Mazumdar–Shaw Cancer Centre (MSCC), in the Narayana Hrudayalaya health city on Friday. The 5 lakh–sq ft hospital will be focusing on curing on head and neck, breast and cervical cancer.

MSCC aims to extend the idea of affordability from cardiac care to cancer as well. Speaking at the launch of MSCC, Biocon CMD Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, said: “There is no concept of standard cancer care as there are huge variations in cancer treatment across India. We also need facilities that provide comprehensive care, through a bespoke model with treatment that is unique to every patient.”

Ms Shaw has a small stake in the holding company, Narayana Hrudayalaya, in her personal capacity.
