In a jumble&nadash;up of sexes, a man was recently diagnosed with cancer&nadash;but of the woman organs. Salim Sheikh, a 30&nadash;year&nadash;old man, was first found to have female reproductive organs when he was diagnosed with tumour where his cervix opened into his urethra.

This is probably one of the rare cases of a man having cancer of the female reproductive organs present in his body, doctors said. Urologist Dr Hemang Bakshi said that Salim was referred to him after he suffered bleeding in his urine. Salim had noticed this phenomenon happening on a monthly basis last year.

“Medical investigations revealed that he had ovaries, uterus and even vagina opening into his urethra. He had started menstruating and hence would pass blood in his urine,”said Dr Bakshi.

The team of doctors led by Dr Bakshi, Dr Pravin Patel and Dr Seema Parikh operated him to remove the uterus. During surgery, the doctors found a tumor at the cervix&nadash;vagina. The tumour was removed and sent for biopsy.

“The biopsy report revealed that the tumour was cancerous. It is rare for a man to have both male genital organs as well as female reproductive organs. It is rarer for a man to have cancer of those female organs,”said Dr Bakshi.

Meanwhile, Salim is currently undergoing chemotherapy for the cancer but unfortunately the cancer is progressing.
