October is observed as breast cancer awareness month across the world, and taking the ‘Pink’ campaign on the need for early detection, Aastha Breast Cancer Support Group has organised a ‘Toran’ (garland) rally from Deccan Gymkhana to Chatushringi Temple on October 9, where breast cancer patients will participate. Aastha members will engage with women to speak on breast cancer and the need for routine tests.

"Women must have regular mammography tests to detect abnormalities early," said Shekhar Kulkarni, Breast Surgeon and Founder member of Aastha Group.

Kulkarni also added, a new breast–scan machine has been installed in Magnolia Centre at Bhandarkar Road for a ‘no touch’ breast scan. The breast scan is being offered free of cost between October 18 and 24 at Magnolia Centre. The rally will be from 4 to 8 pm.

Key Points
  • Be aware that breast cancer can happen to anyone
  • Avoid obesity
  • Follow routine lifestyle
  • Get routine mammography done after menopause.
