Prerna Support Group, KEM Hospital, Pune, along with Crusade against Cancer Foundation (CACF), one of the leading support groups dedicated to cancer awareness, organised Rose Day celebrations for cancer patients at KEM Hospital on Saturday, where Commissioner of Police Meeran Borwankar distributed gifts to patients passing Board examinations with flying colours in spite of the ailment.

Speaking on the occasion, Borwankar said, "Activities such as Rose Day celebrations should be promoted, as they create awareness among general public and doctors to update themselves about the prevalence of cancer and the latest technologies available to combat it."

Dr P Jagannath, Chairman, Department of Surgical Oncology, Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre and Managing Trustee, and Borwankar handed out roses and cheques to the children taking treatment for cancer in KEM. The treatment is undertaken by CACF under ‘Sachin’s Crusade Against Cancer in children’ project.

Dr Jagannath said, "Treatment of childhood cancer has been a success story of modern medicine. By curing a child, we add at least six decades of productive life and bring back the smile on a child’s face and joy to the family under stress."

The campaign would be conducted to aid more children and achieve a target of treating hundred children with cancer under ‘Sachin’s special century for cancer kids’ by next year.
