The coming week will commence on a positive note for women across the globe who will be celebrating the 100th International Women’s Day. Adding sparkle to the celebrations is the Lavasa Women’s Drive on Sunday, which will see over 1,200 women driving from Bandra Reclamation Ground to Lavasa, spreading awareness about the various types of cancer inflicting women.

Flagging off the event at the ground will be stars of the upcoming movie Housefull–Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone and Jaqueline Fernandes. Others include Rahul Bose, Luke Kenny, Adhuna Akhtar and Raageshwari.

On Thursday, participants of the Lavasa Women’s Drive 2010 gathered at St Andrews Auditorium in Bandra for the pre–drive session where they were briefed about the event by Anuradha Paraskar, senior V–P (marketing), Lavasa Corporation. She also told them that there are a number of fun activities planned for them at Lavasa Township, which includes games, relaxing, unwinding sessions and a concert. Devieka Bhojwani, V–P, Women’s Cancer Initiative, Tata Memorial Hospital, also presented facts and figures on the rise of cancer among women and how important timely check–ups are.

Participants will be given the task to drive at a steady speed. They will also be given directional clues called tulips, in a road book that will be given to them just before the start as the route is undisclosed. One will have to follow these tulips to be on the route set by the organisers at the ideal speed/time as indicated in the speed chart which will also be handed over along with the road book.

Participants need to be at the venue at 6 am.
