Cancer Patients Treated
Gujarat Cancer and Research Institute in Ahmedabad has reported an increase of 12% in the number of outdoor patients. The state government informed this to the state assembly while replying to a question by Bhushan Bhatt, the newly-elected Khadia MLA. The government said that from March 2008 to December 31, 2010, it has allocated Rs 100.24 crore as grant to the institute.

The government officials said that not just patients from the state but also from neighbouring Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra come to the institute for treatment. The institute conducts OPD and indoor activities for diagnosis, staging, treatment and monitoring disease progress and renders free or subsidised treatment.

Apart from providing treatment, the hospital also offers unique experimental and research-oriented diagnosis and treatment services to improve quality of life and expected survival of those afflicted with cancer.

Cancer Patients Treated
Founded in 1972, the institute is an autonomous body jointly managed by the state government and Gujarat Cancer Society. It was in the year 2009-2010 that the institute had introduced Sanjivani Rath – modern mobile diagnostic services for rural Gujarat among other initiatives. The institute has also applied for a medical college, for which a team of the Medical Council of India had recently paid a visit there.
